Sedation
Ensuring a positive and comfortable experience for your child is our priority for us, especially when it comes to dental procedures that may cause anxiety or discomfort. That’s why we offer pediatric dental sedation services to help alleviate fear and promote relaxation during treatments.
Sedation Options
Nitrous Oxide
We suggest nitrous oxide with or without conscience sedation to ensure a stress-free dental experience.
Nitrous oxide, a colorless gas with a faintly sweet scent, has been utilized in medicine for approximately a century. It serves as a safe and reliable means of administering conscious sedation, allowing the individual to remain awake throughout the procedure while feeling entirely at ease — even content. Vital bodily functions continue normally during the administration of nitrous oxide, and its effects dissipate swiftly afterward.
Oral Sedation
We offer oral sedation as a safe and effective option to help children relax during dental procedures.
Oral sedation involves the administration of medication by mouth before the appointment to help your child feel calm and comfortable. Our experienced pediatric dentists carefully review your child’s medical history and assess their individual needs to determine the appropriate dosage for sedation.
During the procedure, your child will remain awake and responsive but will feel deeply relaxed. Oral sedation can help alleviate fear and anxiety, making the dental experience more pleasant for your child.
Rest assured, our team closely monitors your child’s vital signs throughout the procedure to ensure their safety and well-being. The day after the appointment, the effects of the sedation will gradually wear off, leaving your child feeling like themselves again.
FAQ’s
How Is Nitrous Oxide Administered?
Nitrous oxide serves as a form of conscious sedation, administered through a small mask comfortably placed over a child’s nose. As the gas is delivered, it is mixed with oxygen at safe levels for the body. Within minutes, the patient may begin to experience a light, floating sensation and some tingling in the extremities, indicating the onset of sedation. Once it is confirmed that the child is calm and comfortable, and the dosage is appropriate, the dental procedure can commence.
While nitrous oxide is effective in reducing anxiety, it does not replace local anesthetic for children or adults but acts as an anxiolytic. Even if anesthesia is needed, the child remains conscious, able to communicate, and retains control throughout the procedure. The dosage of nitrous oxide can be adjusted to provide the necessary level of sedation for comfort while maintaining alertness.
Upon completion of the procedure, the flow of nitrous oxide is gradually reduced to zero, while oxygen levels are increased. After a brief rest in the chair, the child will return to a completely normal state.
